Septal extension graft is a workhorse for tip rhinoplasty. It has several functions and may be used with different purposes. Furthermore, the shape and spacial position of the graft may be different and should be chosen according to the specific role of the septal extension graft in the specific clinical case being dealt with.
The purpose of this Instructional Course is to explain the advantages of using a septal extension graft in rhinoplasty and to demonstrate its use in several different clinical scenarios. The shape and position of the graft should be tailored to the specific case being dealt with and this will be detailed in this Course. Several clinical cases in which a septal extension graft was used for different purposes will be shown.
Prof. Dr. Rui Xavier graduated in Medicine from University of Porto in 1989. He concluded his training in Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery and became Specialist in 1997. He has a PhD degree in Medical Sciences with a thesis addressing rhinoplasty outcomes.
Prof. Dr. Rui Xavier has a special interest in Facial Plastic Surgery and, particularly, in functional and aesthetic rhinoplasty.
Prof. Dr. Rui Xavier is frequently invited to lecture in Congresses in Europe, Americaand Asia. He is author of several scientific papers published in medical journals and of several book chapters about rhinoplasty published in Europe and USA. He is also a reviewer for the Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Journal, for the Facial Plastic Surgery Journal and for the Laryngoscope Journal.
Prof. Dr. Rui Xavier is member of the European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery and of the Asian Facial Plastic Surgery Society. He is President of the Facial Plastic Committee of the Portuguese Otolaryngology Society and National Delegate for Portugal of the European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery.
