Alar retraction is a frequent finding in rhinoplasty, both in primary as well as in revision cases, and either unilaterally or bilaterally. An alar retraction, if left unaddressed, may jeopardize an otherwise good surgical outcome. Several surgical options are available to deal with alar retraction, which will be explained and demonstrated.
To explain and demonstrate, with different clinical cases, the available surgical options to deal with alar retraction.
Prof. Dr. Rui Xavier graduated in Medicine from University of Porto in 1989. He concluded his training in Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery and became Specialist in 1997. He has a PhD degree in Medical Sciences with a thesis addressing rhinoplasty outcomes.
Prof. Dr. Rui Xavier has a special interest in Facial Plastic Surgery and, particularly, in functional and aesthetic rhinoplasty.
Prof. Dr. Rui Xavier is frequently invited to lecture in Congresses in Europe, Americaand Asia. He is author of several scientific papers published in medical journals and of several book chapters about rhinoplasty published in Europe and USA. He is also a reviewer for the Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Journal, for the Facial Plastic Surgery Journal and for the Laryngoscope Journal.
Prof. Dr. Rui Xavier is member of the European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery and of the Asian Facial Plastic Surgery Society. He is President of the Facial Plastic Committee of the Portuguese Otolaryngology Society and National Delegate for Portugal of the European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery.
