FEES in Dysphagia Management: A Practical Guide for Clinicians

Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) is a valuable, minimally invasive tool for assessing oropharyngeal dysphagia. This presentation will provide an overview of FEES methodology, indications, and interpretation strategies in both acute and chronic care settings. Emphasis will be placed on its role in multidisciplinary dysphagia management, including collaboration between otolaryngologists, speech-language pathologists, and rehabilitation teams.

The session will include case-based examples to illustrate typical findings, safety considerations, and decision-making in diet modification and therapeutic planning. Attendees will gain practical insights into integrating FEES into routine clinical workflows and enhancing patient outcomes through accurate and timely swallowing assessment.

Dr. Sibel Alicura Tokgöz is an experienced ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) specialist and Professor currently working at Etlik City Hospital in Ankara, Turkey. She completed her medical degree at Akdeniz University and her ENT residency at Ankara Dışkapı Training and Research Hospital. Since 2011, she has held various clinical and academic positions, with a focus on otologic surgery, cochlear implantation, otosclerosis, and nasal surgery.

Dr. Tokgöz has participated in international fellowships, including a clinical observership at Gruppo Otologico in Italy, and has attended numerous advanced surgical courses. She has authored over 25 peer-reviewed publications and contributed to several medical textbooks. Her research interests include hearing loss, dysphagia, and surgical innovations in otolaryngology.
