Vestibular migraine (VM) is one of the most common causes of recurrent vertigo, yet it remains underdiagnosed and often challenging to manage in clinical practice. In this keynote lecture, two experts will provide a comprehensive overview of VM based on current diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. The first part will focus on the clinical features and diagnostic criteria of VM. The second part will discuss evidence-based treatment strategies, including both acute management and preventive therapy. This session will offer practical insights for clinicians managing patients with balance disorders and highlight key updates in the field of vestibular medicine.
Dr. Fumiyuki Goto received his M.D. from the Keio University School of Medicine in March 1994. He entered the doctoral program at the same institution in April 1998 and conducted research on vestibular compensation during a research fellowship at the University of Munich, Department of Physiology, from April 1999 to March 2001. He subsequently pursued research on otolith-ocular reflexes at the Tokyo Medical University from April 2001 to March 2002.
He completed his Ph.D. in March 2002 and began his academic career as an assistant professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at Keio University.
In April 2007, Dr. Goto was appointed visiting lecturer at Keio University. He served as the head of the Department of Otolaryngology at Hino Municipal Hospital from 2008 and concurrently worked as a part-time physician at the National Center for Child Health and Development starting in June 2009.
In April 2012, he joined the Department of Otolaryngology at the National Hospital Organization Tokyo Medical Center. He became Head of the Laboratory for Equilibrium Disorders at the Center for Clinical Research of the same institution in April 2014. He also served as a part-time lecturer at Kyorin University School of Medicine starting in April 2013.
In July 2018, he was appointed Associate Professor in the Division of Otorhinolaryngology, Department of Clinical Medicine, Tokai University School of Medicine. In April 2023, the division was reorganized as the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, where he continued as Associate Professor. Since 2024, Dr. Goto has been serving as Professor of the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at Tokai University School of Medicine.
Dr. Goto's clinical and research interests include vestibular disorders, psychosomatic otorhinolaryngology, and auditory perception. He has published numerous papers in these fields and remains actively involved in both patient care and clinical research.

I would like to introduce my research on medical device development in the field of vestibular disorders.
First, I developed a diagnostic method known as foam posturography, which evaluates postural stability using a foam rubber placed under the feet. This method enables simple and practical estimation of vestibular function (e.g., Fujimoto C, Clin Neurophysiol, 2009). It was subsequently approved for reimbursement in Japan and has been widely adopted in clinical practice, with more than 1,900 devices installed in medical institutions, establishing it as an important tool for balance assessment.
Next, I have been working on the development of a portable therapeutic medical device for patients with intractable vestibular disorders employing noisy galvanic vestibular stimulation. (e.g., Fujimoto C, Sci Rep, 2019; Fujimoto C, PloS One, 2025).
More recently, my research has focused on the development of a daily dizziness monitoring system using smartphones and machine learning, as well as the application of millimeter-wave radar-based non-contact biosensing technologies.
Dr. Emel Tahir has been working as an associate professor in Ondokuz Mayıs University Department of Otolaryngology, Samsun Turkey since March 2019.
She received his MD from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, Ankara, Turkey. He finished ENT residency at Hacettepe University Department of Otolaryngology, in 2015. For her fellowship work she worked on inner ear malformations.
She was engaged in Otology/Neurotology and Head&Neck Surgery certificate programs of Turkish Board of ORL-HNS. She is also a fellow of European Board of Otolatyngology-Hed and Neck Surgey. She is focused on otology/neurotology and laryngology.

Dr. Pelin Koçdor, MD, PhD Associate Professor of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery Başkent University, Istanbul, Türkiye
Dr. Pelin Koçdor is an otologist and neurotologist with a strong foundation in both clinical surgery and neuroscience research. She currently serves as an Associate Professor at Başkent University, where she specializes in otology, lateral skull base surgery, cochlear implantation, and complex vestibular disorders.
She completed her PhD in Neuroscience at Koç University with a focus on migraine, CGRP signaling, and hearing loss—bridging molecular neurobiology with clinical otology. Dr. Koçdor has completed fellowships in otology and neurotology at the Paparella Ear Head and Neck Institute and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Her research interests include vestibular migraine, Ménière’s disease, autoimmune inner ear disease, and the role of neuroinflammation in otologic conditions. She is a recipient of the Politzer Society Gold Medal (2022) and has been supported by TUBITAK and the Capita Foundation for her auditory research.
Dr. Koçdor is a member of the American Neurotology Society, the Politzer Society, and the Turkish ENT Society, and is certified by both the Turkish and European Boards in Otolaryngology.
