I would like to introduce my research on medical device development in the field of vestibular disorders.
First, I developed a diagnostic method known as foam posturography, which evaluates postural stability using a foam rubber placed under the feet. This method enables simple and practical estimation of vestibular function (e.g., Fujimoto C, Clin Neurophysiol, 2009). It was subsequently approved for reimbursement in Japan and has been widely adopted in clinical practice, with more than 1,900 devices installed in medical institutions, establishing it as an important tool for balance assessment.
Next, I have been working on the development of a portable therapeutic medical device for patients with intractable vestibular disorders employing noisy galvanic vestibular stimulation. (e.g., Fujimoto C, Sci Rep, 2019; Fujimoto C, PloS One, 2025).
More recently, my research has focused on the development of a daily dizziness monitoring system using smartphones and machine learning, as well as the application of millimeter-wave radar-based non-contact biosensing technologies.
Session
Vestibular migraine (VM) is one of the most common causes of recurrent vertigo, yet it remains underdiagnosed and often challenging to manage in clinical practice. In this keynote lecture, two experts will provide a comprehensive overview of VM based on current diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. The first part will focus on the clinical features and diagnostic criteria of VM. The second part will discuss evidence-based treatment strategies, including both acute management and preventive therapy. This session will offer practical insights for clinicians managing patients with balance disorders and highlight key updates in the field of vestibular medicine.
