Dr Matthew White is an otorhinolaryngologist and head and neck surgeon based in Cape Town, South Africa. He currently leads the Head and Neck Surgery subdivision at the University of Cape Town, where he is actively involved in clinical care, academic leadership, and surgical training.
Dr White co-directs the Head and Neck Subspecialty Fellowship Program at the University of Cape Town together with Professor Johan Fagan, contributing to the development of advanced surgical training in the region. He also serves on the executive committees of both the South African Head and Neck Surgical Society and the African Head and Neck Society, reflecting his commitment to advancing the field across the continent.
He has a strong interest in research and education, having contributed to textbook chapters and published in peer-reviewed journals. Dr White is also involved in international training initiatives and co-runs a Head and Neck Dissection Course in Cape Town in collaboration with the International Federation of Otorhinolaryngological Societies (IFOS).
His work is particularly focused on improving the management of head and neck cancer in resource-limited settings, with a commitment to developing practical, high-quality surgical care and training within the context of the developing world.
