this presentation aims to advise young researchers by showing the importance of scholarships such as the TÜBİTAK 2214-a international research scholarship in conducting some doctoral studies abroad. The international funding process and project application content will form the basis for being in new research environments and gaining experience, and transferring advanced methodologies back to domestic institutions. The impact of such experiences on technical and professional development, scientific perspectives and their importance in long-term international collaborations, and how they enrich the quality of research at home will be emphasized.

background:
during my phd in audiology, i received funding through the TÜBİTAK 2214-a program to conduct a portion of my doctoral research at the kresge hearing research institute at the university of michigan, USA. This experience directly advanced my thesis work, allowing me to acquire advanced skills in electrophysiology and confocal imaging in basic science. Beyond the technical training, it encouraged an adaptation to an international research culture and collaborations that would continue to shape my academic career. By sharing this scientific experience, i hope to encourage early career scientists to take advantage of similar opportunities and explore global perspectives.

Based on the experience of conducting part of doctoral research in the USA with the support of a TÜBİTAK scholarship, this presentation shares practical insights into securing research funding, adapting to an international research environment, and building meaningful global collaborations.
the aim is to encourage early-career researchers to make the most of these opportunities, strengthen their academic and professional skills, expand their networks, and ultimately contribute to scientific progress in their home countries.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Necati Enver is an Otolaryngologist (ENT) specialist who has dedicated his career to the research and treatment of voice, swallowing, and airway disorders. With his expertise in non-surgical treatment approaches and his internationally diverse training background, he has become one of Turkey's leading figures in the field of laryngology.
Dr. Enver began his medical education at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, one of Turkey's most prestigious medical schools, and completed his residency training in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at Istanbul University ENT Clinic. During his residency, he had the opportunity to expand his knowledge and experience on an international level, training at the renowned Università Degli Studi Di Genova in Italy — an experience that gave him close exposure to different clinical approaches practiced across Europe. During this same period, he also participated in research at the Cancer Stem Cell Laboratory of Charité University Berlin, a leading institution in head and neck cancer research, further strengthening his scientific background in oncology.
Determined to continue his academic and clinical development at an international level, Dr. Enver moved to the United States, where he worked at the Voice Center of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), gaining advanced knowledge and experience in voice, speech, and swallowing disorders. During this time, he successfully completed all four steps of the USMLE examinations required for U.S. medical licensure equivalency. Following this achievement, he was accepted into the joint Laryngology Fellowship Program of Weill Cornell Medicine and Columbia University in New York — two internationally renowned institutions. Throughout this prestigious one-year fellowship, Dr. Enver received intensive, hands-on surgical and clinical training, achieving a world-class level of expertise in laryngology. This experience allowed him to refine both his surgical skills and his clinical judgment in approaching voice and swallowing disorders at the highest level.
After completing this extensive period of training abroad, Dr. Enver returned to Turkey and continued his academic career as a faculty member at Marmara University ENT Clinic. As a result of his scientific work, publications, and teaching activities, he was awarded the title of Associate Professor in 2021. Continuing his academic, educational, and clinical responsibilities at one of the leading universities on Istanbul's Anatolian side, Dr. Enver has also contributed significantly to the training of young physicians.
Today, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Necati Enver practices at his own clinic while also serving as a Board Member of the European Laryngological Society (ELS), playing an active role in the international scientific community. He has made it his principle to offer patients minimally invasive, non-surgical treatment options whenever possible for a wide range of ENT conditions, particularly hoarseness, swallowing difficulties, and vocal cord disorders. Closely following the latest global advancements in his area of passion — voice and swallowing disorders — Dr. Enver continues to apply this accumulated knowledge both in patient care and in the innovative educational approaches he shares with his students.
Dr. Fatma Nur Komur received her BSc in Audiology from Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa in 2019. She completed her MSc in Audiology at Ondokuz Mayıs University in 2021 and earned her PhD in Audiology and Speech Disorders from Marmara University in 2026. During her doctoral training, she conducted research at the Kresge Hearing Research Institute at the University of Michigan, USA. Her research interests focus on translational audiovestibular experimental models investigating noise-induced vestibular pathologies, synaptic mechanisms, and their behavioral consequences.
