Floris Wuyts, is full professor and heads the Lab for Equilibrium Investigations and Aerospace (LEIA) at the University of Antwerp, Belgium, where his research focuses on the vestibular system and its role in balance disorders. His work spans otolith physiology, vestibular diagnostics, and neuroplasticity in vestibular signal processing, including studies of Mal de Debarquement Syndrome (MdDS). He developed the SO STONED methodology, a diagnostic algorithm for vestibular disorders. He uses spaceflight and microgravity as a unique research model to uncover mechanisms of vestibular (mal)adaptation with direct relevance to clinical otoneurology, and is principal investigator of the Brain-DTI project studying brain changes linked to vestibular dysfunction. His research has been recognized with the ISSRDC Compelling Research Award (2024), the ISGP Nelan Pace Award, and the ELGRA Medal (2022). His clinical activities are strongly connected to the European Institute for ORL in Antwerp.
