Vestibular implant: Where we are?
Dr. Ángel Ramos de Miguel is a researcher and academic specializing in cochlear implants and vestibular stimulation. He is currently Principal Research Director in the Otolaryngology Department at Hospital Insular and an Associate Professor at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), where he combines teaching with research in advanced auditory technologies.
His research focuses on robotics, cochlear implants, vestibular implants, psychoacoustics, and numerical modeling. With an h-index of 17 and over 700 citations on Google Scholar, he has contributed significantly to these fields.
Among his most notable publications are studies on vestibular electrical stimulation in humans and cochlear implantation in children with single-sided deafness, aiming to improve the quality of life for individuals with hearing loss.
Dr. Ramos de Miguel also collaborates regularly with international research networks and actively contributes to conferences and workshops in the field of auditory technology. He is committed to advancing knowledge in the field through both his academic work and practical applications aimed at improving patient outcomes.
Raymond van de Berg is Professor and ENT-surgeon at Maastricht University Medical Center, with a special interest in vestibular disorders and cochlear implantation. His research initiatives mainly focus on the vestibular implant, bilateral vestibulopathy and vestibular diagnostics. He obtained his first PhD (in medicine) cum laude, which won several scientific prizes. A second PhD was obtained in biophysics (maximum score). He is also head of the Department of Audiology, Head of the Vestibular Department and Chair of the Bárány Society Educational Committee.
