Anastasios Maniakas, M.D., PhD., is an Assistant Professor, Tenure Track, in the Department of Head and Neck Surgery at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Maniakas received his undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degrees from McGill University, and his medical doctorate from the University of Montreal. He completed his residency at the University of Montreal followed by a fellowship in head and neck surgical oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. His clinical expertise is in head and neck cancers, with an emphasis on thyroid disease, oral cavity cancer, skin cancers, and salivary gland neoplasms. Dr. Maniakas’ research interests focus on translational research, developing unique patient-derived xenograft models utilized in understanding cancer pathogenesis and novel drug therapy development. Furthermore, Dr. Maniakas is investigating the effect of the microbiome in the development, progression, and recurrence of cancer in his patient population. Lastly, he is co-leading a global randomized trial evaluating the effect of photoimmunotherapy in locoregionally advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.

I graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 2011 at the University of Brescia, Italy summa cum laude. In 2017 I completed the residency program in Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery summa cum laude in the same Institute under the guidance of Prof. Piero Nicolai. During my formative years I performed a visiting fellowship at the Section of Head and Neck Oncology of the University Hospital of Leuven, Belgium, and at the Division of Head and Neck Surgery of the University of Hong Kong.

During my training I dealt with head and neck oncology, rhinology, and endoscopic skull base surgery with special interest for oral cavity and maxillary and paranasal sinuses cancers. During my attendance at the University of Hong Kong I increased my experience in the management of some specific tumors such nasopharyngeal cancer.

I carried out my activity in 2017 at the Otolaryngology Unit of the Humanitas Clincal and Research Center - Rozzano (MI) and in 2018-2019, at the Otolaryngology Division of the Bolzano Hospital under the guidance of Dr. Luca Calabrese. In this period, I mainly dealt with advanced oncological surgery of the head and neck. I have also greatly developed my experience in functional surgery of the nose and paranasal sinuses. From 2020 to 2022, I worked at the Otolaryngology Department of the Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico in Milan, mainly dealing with rhinology, orbital surgery, and skull base surgery.

In 2022 I started my activity at the Unit of Otorhinolaryngology, ASST Grande Ospedale Metropolitano Niguarda, Milano, Italy where I am referent Consultant for Head and Neck and Skull Base patients.

He graduated from Hacettepe University Medical School and completed his Otolaryngology Residency training at the same institution. He did “Head Neck Surgery Clinical Fellowship” at Wayne State University, Michigan-USA, 1998-2000. He worked as Chief of Otolaryngology Depart. at Dışkapı Research and Training Hospital 2005-2011, and at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University between 2011-2022, as a Professor of Otolaryngology. His main area of clinical and research interest has been “Head Neck Cancers and Surgery”, and have many published papers in several esteemed journals. He had been the board member of Turkish ORL-HNS Society (2012-2016), President of Otolaryngology Head Neck Surgery Society (2016-2018). He had been the founder chairman of “Turkish Ear Nose Throat Schools” between 2012 and 2016, which aimed to the postgraduate advanced training of ENT specialists. He is currently the President of Ear Nose Throat online platform (KBBplatform), which is involved in advanced trainings in the area of Otolaryngology, nationally. He is also the board member of Head Neck Cancer Society of Turkey.

I was born in 1983. I graduated from Hacettepe University Medical school. Iam currently working at Gazi University Medical School ENT Department as associated professor.
