LARYNGOMALASIA DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT IS DISCUSSED

Airway compromise is one of the most critical and life-threatening challenges in pediatric burn injuries, especially in cases of inhalational trauma or facial burns. Timely recognition and appropriate surgical intervention are essential to reduce morbidity and mortality in this vulnerable population.

This presentation will focus on the principles and practice of surgical airway management in burned children, with an emphasis on emergent decision-making, technical modifications, and long-term care considerations. I will address key issues including airway edema, anatomic distortion due to burns, difficult intubation scenarios, and indications for surgical airway access such as tracheostomy or cricothyrotomy.

The session will also explore:

• The role of early airway assessment in thermal and chemical burns

• Surgical techniques tailored for pediatric anatomy under burn conditions

• Timing and technique of tracheostomy in acute and subacute phases

• Multidisciplinary coordination in airway and wound care

• Long-term sequelae such as subglottic stenosis and tracheal granulation, and their management

Through case-based discussions and operative videos from my institution, I will demonstrate practical approaches and innovations that improve airway security while minimizing complications in burned children.

Purpose of the Proposal: The purpose of this proposal is to present current surgical strategies and clinical decision-making tools for managing complex airways in pediatric burn patients. This talk aims to enhance preparedness among otolaryngologists and surgical teams worldwide when faced with challenging airway scenarios in acute burn care, ultimately contributing to better outcomes through early intervention and interdisciplinary collaboration.
