Advances in Otoplasty: Techniques, Outcomes, and Future Directions
Mehmet Murat Günay

Otoplasty remains a cornerstone of aesthetic and reconstructive ear surgery, primarily addressing congenital deformities such as prominent ears. Over time, the field has evolved beyond purely cosmetic goals to encompass functional and psychological considerations, especially in pediatric and adolescent populations. Despite advancements in technique, a subset of patients—estimated at up to 15%—continues to experience suboptimal outcomes, including asymmetry, recurrence, or dissatisfaction with aesthetic results.

In this presentation, we aim to share our surgical technique and clinical outcomes from a series of over 100 patients treated at Ankara Etlik City Hospital. Our method focuses on enhancing surgical precision, improving reproducibility, and minimizing complications through a refined approach to cartilage reshaping and suture placement.

The objective of this session is to:

  1. Present a step-by-step overview of our technique.

  2. Analyze complication rates and identify key risk factors.

  3. Discuss strategies to optimize patient satisfaction and long-term aesthetic outcomes.

Our clinical data demonstrate a satisfaction rate exceeding 95%, supporting the effectiveness and reliability of our approach. This presentation builds upon previous research and clinical experience to propose a standardized technique that may contribute to improved global outcomes in otoplasty.
