Antoinette am Zehnhoff-Dinnesen studied medical sciences and became a medical specialist in ENT diseases in 1983 and in 1986 a medical specialist in phoniatrics and pedaudiology. After her Habilitation in 1988, in 1990 she was appointed Professor of Phoniatrics and Pedaudiology at the Medical Faculty of Philipps University in Marburg. In 1991, she became Professor at the Medical Faculty of University of Münster, where she was Head of the Clinic of Phoniatrics and Pedaudiology until her retirement in 2020. Together with her team, in 2007, she founded the Hearing Screening Centre Westphalia-Lippe. She is author or co-author of more than 160 papers in scientific journals in German and English on various aspects of phoniatrics and pedaudiology with a focus on ototoxicity of cisplatin. Am Zehnhoff-Dinnesen is co-author of several books and editor-in-chief of the book series European Manual of Medicine, Phoniatrics 1, 2 and 3. She has been President of the German Society of Phoniatrics and Paedaudiology (DGPP), President of the Union of the European Phoniatricians (UEP) and has initiated and promoted the foundation of the European Academy of Phoniatrics (EAP) as founding director. She and her team have received several awards. She was honoured by the Medal of Merit of the German Society of Phoniatrics and Pedaudiology in 2025. Antoinette am Zehnhoff-Dinnesen is honorary chairwoman of the Union of the European Phoniatricians and honorary member of the Polish Society of Otorhinolaryngologists and Head and Neck Surgeons, of the Czech Society of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery, of the German Society of Phoniatrics and Paedaudiology, of the European Academy of Phoniatrics, of the Bulgarian Society of Medical Speech and Language Pathologists and of the Confederation of German Hearing Screening Centres. In 2025 she was elected vice president of the German-Indonesian Society for Medicine.
