The importance of the vestibular system and structure preservation – Assessing function with objective testing prior to cochlear implantation
09-11, 09:00–09:30 (Europe/Istanbul), Otology 6

Background - The peripheral vestibular system is closely related to the hearing organ. They are anatomically connected, with shared pathologies. Despite this, much of the focus of cochlear implantation has been on hearing / structure preservation of the cochlea as well as hearing and speech outcomes pre and post surgery

The purpose of this lecture is to

  1. 1) To recognise the importance of assessing the vestibular system in the cochlear implant (CI) candidate prior to surgerY

2) To understand how objective measures can be helpful in the decision making of CI candidates

3) To understand how/which objective measures of vestibular function can be useful in the post CI situation
