<p>Dr. Stil Kountakis, MD, PhD, FACS, is Tenured Professor and Chair of the Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University, where he holds the Edward S. Porubsky, MD Distinguished Chair. He also serves as Chief of Service for Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at Wellstar MCG Medical Center.</p> <p>Dr. Kountakis earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Houston and his medical degree from the University of Texas–Houston, where he also completed his residency training in otolaryngology.</p> <p>A nationally and internationally recognized leader in rhinology and skull base surgery, Dr. Kountakis has served as President of the American Rhinologic Society and has held leadership roles in multiple professional organizations, including the Triological Society and the Georgia Society of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery. He served as President of the Georgia Society and currently remains a member of its Board of Directors.</p> <p>He has received numerous honors, including the Distinguished Service Award from the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, Honorary Membership in the European Rhinologic Society, and the Golden Head Mirror Award from the American Rhinologic Society for his contributions in service, teaching, clinical care, and research. He was also awarded the Lester Brown Award (2025) from the Georgia Society of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery for lifetime achievement, along with Presidential Citations from the American Rhinologic Society, the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, and the Southern Section of the Triological Society. In addition, he received the Honoris Causa Award from the Hellenic Rhinologic Society–Facial Plastic Surgery in recognition of his distinguished career and significant contributions to rhinology.</p> <p>He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is consistently recognized as a “Top Doctor.”</p> <p>Dr. Kountakis is a prolific academic surgeon who has authored hundreds of publications and edited major textbooks, including the Encyclopedia of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery. His research focuses on chronic rhinosinusitis, nasal polyposis, and surgical outcomes.</p>
