Dr. Michael Rutter has been a pediatric otolaryngologist at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center since 2001, affiliated with the University of Cincinnati, and holds an academic rank of Professor of Pediatric Otolaryngology He specializes in pediatric otolaryngology with an emphasis on airway problems in children, adolescents and young adults with interests including tracheal reconstruction and complex airway surgery. Dr. Rutter received the 2016 Gabriel Frederick Tucker Award from the American Laryngological Association, and the 2018 Sylvan Stool Teaching Award from the Society for Ear Nose and Throat Advancement in Children (SENTAC) for his contributions to the field of pediatric laryngology. In addition to caring for patients, he is also involved in research to find improvements in airway management.

Dr. Rutter has developed several operations (eg, epiglottic petiole repositioning, endoscopic anterior and posterior cricoid split for neonatal vocal cord paralysis), and has significantly modified several others (eg, cricotracheal resection, slide tracheoplasty). Over the years with his innovations and reputation as an airway surgeon, he has popularized operations such as airway balloon dilation and slide tracheoplasty.  Dr. Rutter currently has four patents; one of these in a balloon dilator, for which he receives Royalties. He also designed a stent (marketed with his name on it), but declined Royalties on this.

Academically, Dr. Rutter has been very productive in publishing peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Over the last 10 years he has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles.

Wei-Chung Hsu, MD, PhD is currently the Professor and Division Chief of Division of Pediatric Otolaryngology, Department of Otolaryngology, College of Medicine, National Taiwan University, National Taiwan University Hospital and Children’s Hospital. He is also the Director of Center of Sleep Disorder in National Taiwan University Hospital since August, 2023 and the current President of Taiwan Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology since 2021.

He received his residency training at National Taiwan University Hospital after graduated from Medical School of National Taiwan University. He also got his PhD degree from Institute of Occupational Medicine and Industrial Hygiene, Colleague of Public Health, National Taiwan University.

He is one of the founding members of Asian Pediatric Otolaryngology Group (APOG), Asia-Pacific Pediatric Airway Course and Workshop (APPAC) Group and being the President of APOG from 2013-2015, APPAC in 2015. He is also an active members of American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology (ASPO), European Society of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology (ESPO) and Inter-American Association of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology (IAPO), who has received 2012 ASPO International Visiting Scholar Award and selected as member of CORLAS (Collegium Oto-Rhino-Laryngologicum Amicitiae Sacrum) since 2016. He also finished his research fellowship as a visiting scholar in the Department of Pediatric Otolaryngology, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center from 2017 to 2018. As an honor, he was nominated as the representative of Asian area in the International Working Group of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology (IWGPO), which is the core leading board member of World Congress of Pediatric ENT since 2018.

He is interested in the pediatric airway endoscopy and airway reconstructive surgery, sleep surgery, pediatric sleep apnea and medical education, which has been involved in many aspects of researches, invited as guest speakers and published many papers in the SCI journals.
