He was the first Otorhinolaryngologist to perform microvascular free flap reconstructive surgery in Egypt in 1998. He also was the first to introduce sialendoscopy “minimally invasive salivary gland ductal endoscopic surgery” in Egypt after receiving special training from the European Sialendoscopy training center in Geneva, Switzerland in 2008. Since then, he has been propagating this refined surgical technique in Egypt, Africa and the Middle East area and has been holding annual hands-on/Live surgery training courses in Alexandria and abroad since 2016. He also established an International Sialendoscopy fellowship training program since 2022 held 3 times/year in Alexandria, Egypt (with fellows from 15 different countries already trained). Other areas of surgical interest and expertise include thyroid and salivary gland surgery, Head & Neck cancer surgery and reconstructions, Microlaryngeal surgery and care for the professional voice, facial reanimation surgery in addition to the general Otorhinolaryngology practice.

Starting Sialendoscopy In A Developing Country: Unique Challenges And Achievements!
Emad Magdy, Giulianno Molina de Melo

Background: Sialendoscopy is one of the most fascinating technical advancements introduced in the field of Otorhinolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery in the past decades. It has enabled minimally invasive salivary gland surgical interventions that revolutionized the management of a wide variety of salivary gland ductal diseases enabling gland preservation with improved patient quality of life. Yet its widespread practice and availability are yet hindered by numerous challenges, especially in developing and underdeveloped countries.

Description: A 30-minute keynote lecture shedding light on challenges hindering widespread sialendoscopy practice by a sialendoscopist with 15-year plus experience in practicing and promoting sialendoscopy in a developing country.

Outcome objectives: To highlight different unique challenges faced in starting a successful sialendoscopy practice in developing countries and strategies employed to overcome them to enable widespread patient benefit across the world especially in areas where high tech sophisticated medical care can be difficult to achieve.

Sialendoscopy Scopes & Instruments: Handling, Sterilization & Care
Suleyman Ozdemir, Emad Magdy, Atilla Şengör, Tarek Najjar

Sialendoscopy relies on delicate and costly endoscopes and micro-instruments that require appropriate handling, cleaning, sterilization and maintenance. This seminar will provide a practical overview of how to safely handle sialendoscopes and related instruments before, during and after procedures. Particular attention will be given to prevention of scope and instrument damage, appropriate cleaning and sterilization protocols, maintenance, troubleshooting, and common errors encountered in daily practice. The session will combine clinical and technical perspectives to provide practical recommendations for prolonging instrument life while maintaining patient safety.
