Sessions
bilateral cochlear implantation (BCI) is the gold standard rehabilitation method in bilateral severe to profound hearing losses. In order to obtain binaural hearing advantages both ears should begin to be stimulated ideally within 3 months. Simultaneous BCI offers one session surgery, one postoperative healing period and fewer mapping visits. Thus it is both audiologically and economically advantageous. However, it also carries some surgical risks and some surgeons prefer sequential surgery. In this presentation we aim to point certain problems of simultaneous BCI surgery and our solution proposals.
