Advanced Parathyroid Surgery: Strategies for Tertiary, Reoperative, and Challenging Cases with Operative Video Demonstrations
Mustafa Aslıer, Senem Çengel Kurnaz

Parathyroid surgery presents a unique set of challenges, especially in cases beyond classical primary hyperparathyroidism. Patients with tertiary hyperparathyroidism, recurrent or persistent disease, and reoperative neck surgery often require advanced preoperative planning, intraoperative strategy, and precise anatomical orientation. The complexity of these cases demands both theoretical knowledge and practical insight.

This 30-minute educational session will offer a case-based overview of parathyroid surgery, focusing on surgical approaches to challenging scenarios. Emphasis will be placed on preoperative imaging interpretation, intraoperative decision-making, and techniques to minimize complications. The session will be enriched by high-quality operative videos and images from my personal surgical archive, including cases of tertiary hyperparathyroidism, revision surgery, and ectopic or reoperative parathyroid explorations.

Outcome objectives include enhancing the participants' understanding of:

1. The surgical anatomy of the parathyroid glands in complex settings

2. Indications and strategies for reoperative and tertiary parathyroid surgery

3. Technical pearls for safe and effective dissection, particularly in scarred or distorted neck anatomy

This course is designed to bridge the gap between textbook knowledge and surgical reality by sharing firsthand experiences from a high-volume academic endocrine surgery practice
