The tubercle of Zuckerkandl (TZ) is a posterior extension of the lateral thyroid lobe and represents an important anatomical landmark in thyroid surgery. Its recognition is crucial for identifying and preserving the recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) and the parathyroid glands, thereby reducing the risk of surgical complications. This study reviews the anatomical characteristics, surgical significance, and prevalence of the TZ in patients undergoing thyroidectomy. The presence of a prominent TZ was found to be associated with consistent anatomical relationships to the RLN, serving as a reliable reference point during dissection. The findings underscore the necessity for thyroid surgeons to systematically search for and identify the TZ to enhance surgical safety and outcomes.
