<p>Murat Aydın was born in Mersin, Türkiye, as the second son of a teacher family. He graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Dentistry and later completed his PhD in Microbiology at Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Microbiology. He is the author of 16 professional books on dentistry and oral microbiology. Dr. Aydın has published 22 internationally indexed scientific articles and served as the first author on 15 of these publications. Beyond publishing, he has given numerous lectures, conference presentations, and interviews, and has organized seminars and moderated online forums dedicated to halitosis research and awareness.</p> <p>Dr. Aydın has translated the European sterilization standard EN 13060 (specifications for small steam sterilizers) into Turkish and published it as a book, with the permission of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). In the clinical instrumentation field, he has developed a number of diagnostic and therapeutic devices, many of which are actively used in his private clinic. These include a bruxism-monitoring device (Bruximeter), a 2.5-watt laser at 440 nm wavelength, and a halitometer for measuring volatile compounds associated with oral malodor. He also invented and implemented devices such as an electronic stethoscope, an apex locator, a pulp vitality tester (vitalometer), a motor speed controller, and a square wave generator.</p> <p>He is a member of several respected international scientific organizations, including the New York Academy of Sciences (NYAS), the International Association for Halitosis Research (IAFHR), the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), Instutue Of Physics, and the International Association for Breath Research (IABR).</p> <p>Dr. Aydın has served as a reviewer for multiple international journals, such as Microbiology Research International, Acta Translational Medicine, Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dentistry, Advancement in Medicinal Plant Research, Journal Breath Research, and Quintessence International.</p> <p>His expertise extends to computer programming, particularly in the development of clinical and laboratory software tools. Among the programs he has written are: a programmable garden irrigation automation system, a square wave signal generator, linear equation solvers, a bacterial identification tool based on biochemical test input, a file encryption utility, a bidirectional English-Turkish dictionary with 11,000 entries, and patient management systems for dental clinics. Most of these programs are in daily use in his own practice.</p> <p>Dr. Aydın currently works a specialized halitosis clinic, the Halitorium, where he dedicates his work exclusively to the diagnosis and management of halitosis.
