Edward Zhang

Dr Edward Zhang is a Senior Consultant Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose & Throat Surgeon) with board-certification in Facial Plastic Surgery at Singapore General Hospital and Sengkang General Hospital.

Dr Zhang received his medical degree from the National University of Singapore, Faculty of Medicine in 2007. In medical school, he was awarded the ENT Society Otolaryngology Book Prize Award and gold medal for best performing undergraduate of his year. He went on to receive his specialist training in the Department of Otolaryngology (ENT) at Singapore General Hospital, and underwent further rotations through ENT departments (in TTSH, NUH, CGH, KTPH, and KKWCH) across Singapore, before completing his specialist training in 2016. In 2017, he was granted a prestigious one-year surgical hands-on fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (FPRS) at the University of Virginia, USA, where he was mentored under Drs Stephen Park (Facial Plastic), Jared Christophel (Facial Plastic), Maria Kirzhner (Oculoplastics), and Vandana Nanda (Dermatology).

He pursued his research interest by completing the Master of Clinical Investigation (MCI) at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in 2014 and was the recipient of this 2-year postgraduate translational and clinical research programme funded by the National Research Foundation through National Medical Research Council of Singapore. His clinical research focused on botulinum toxin (Botox).

Dr Zhang helms the Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery service at Singapore General Hospital and Sengkang General Hospital. He is the ongoing course director of the SingHealth Septorhinoplasty Instructional Course run at SGH yearly. His interests include cosmetic and functional rhinoplasty, facial reconstruction, benign and cancerous skin lesions, craniomaxillofacial trauma, facial scarring, ear deformities including microtia reconstruction, lasers, and cosmetic surgery.

Dr Zhang currently holds the title of Clinical Assistant Professor at Duke-NUS Medical School and NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. He is Vice-Chair of the Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (FPRS) Section under the Chapter of Otorhinolaryngologists, Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (FAMS), diplomate of the International Board of Certification in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (IBCFPRS), and Faculty Member for SingHealth Otolaryngology Residency Program.

Contemporary Approaches to Nasal Valve Evaluation and Management

Nasal valve dysfunction is a common but often underdiagnosed cause of nasal airway obstruction, significantly impacting outcomes following surgery. With advances in understand the underlying pathology, clinicians are better equipped identify and effectively manage this condition. This presentation provides an up-to-date review of the anatomy, pathophysiology, and evolving treatment strategies for nasal valve dysfunction, and provides a systematic algorithm to addressing nasal valve dysfunction.
