Allen (Ping-Hung) Shen, MD

Dr. Allen Ping-Hung Shen is a senior otolaryngologist and rhinology specialist with extensive expertise in endoscopic sinus and skull base surgery. He is currently the Chief of the Rhinology Division in the Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at Kuang-Tien General Hospital, Taiwan, and serves as an Assistant Professor at Hung-Kuang University (certified by the Ministry of Education, Taiwan).

Dr. Shen received his medical degree from Taipei Medical University (1989–1996) and completed his residency training in otolaryngology at Kuang-Tien General Hospital (1998–2002). Since 2002, he has remained on staff at the same institution, where he has played a key role in advancing endoscopic rhinologic surgery. In 2007, he undertook international fellowship training in Adelaide, Australia, under the supervision of Professor Peter-John Wormald, focusing on advanced endoscopic sinus and skull base techniques.

His clinical and research interests center on advanced endoscopic sinus surgery, revision ESS, surgical field control, endoscopic salvage nasopharyngectomy for recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and endoscopic nasopharyngeal anatomy. He is also a principal contributor to the development of the Taiwan Smell Identification Test, an office-based olfactory screening tool adapted to the Taiwanese population.

Dr. Shen has been actively involved in professional societies, serving as Director of the Taiwan Rhinology Society (2017–2023) and currently as its Supervisor. He also holds a supervisory role in the Taiwan Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery Society. Internationally, he has been appointed Course Director for IRCAD-Taiwan sinus surgery courses and is a frequent invited speaker and faculty member at FESS and skull base courses across Asia.

His academic work has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals, including International Forum of Allergy & Rhinology, American Journal of Rhinology & Allergy, Journal of Neurosurgery, and Clinical Otolaryngology. His contributions span randomized controlled trials, multicenter surgical outcome studies, and anatomical research.

In recognition of his clinical excellence, Dr. Shen received the Symbol of National Quality (SNQ) Award for Elaborative Endoscopic Sinus Surgery. He continues to be actively engaged in clinical innovation, education, and international academic exchange in the field of rhinology.
