Lei Xu, MD
Chief Physician, Doctoral Supervisor, and National Outstanding Young Physician. My career has been devoted to bridging clinical otology with translational hearing science. My practice encompasses the full arc of hearing healthcare: from newborn hearing screening and early diagnosis to designing individualized intervention strategies for patients with mild, moderate, severe, or profound sensorineural hearing loss. I specialize in cochlear implantation with meticulous attention to residual hearing preservation. A significant portion of my surgical caseload involves challenging congenital malformations—such as Mondini deformities, common cavity anomalies, narrow internal auditory canals, and cochlear nerve hypoplasia—requiring advanced preoperative evaluation and highly customized implantation techniques. Additionally, I routinely perform implantable bone conduction procedures, including BAHA and BoneBridge systems, and execute middle ear reconstructive surgeries for chronic otitis media. At the frontier of precision medicine, I have translated laboratory breakthroughs into clinical reality by leading the world’s first gene therapy clinical trials for OTOF-related auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder. This work embodies my commitment to curing, not merely compensating for, hereditary hearing loss.
