Md Abul Hasnat Joarder

Prof. Dr. Md. Abul Hasnat Joarder is a senior Otorhinolaryngologist and distinguished medical academic based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, with over 40 years of experience in Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery.

He is the former Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery at Bangladesh Medical University, where he also served as Chief of the Otology Division and Director of Postgraduate Medical Education. He was the founding Director of the national Cochlear Implant Program, playing a pioneering role in the development of advanced hearing rehabilitation services in Bangladesh.

Prof. Joarder is the immediate past President of the Society of Otolaryngologists and Head-Neck Surgeons of Bangladesh and currently serves as President of the Bangladesh Society of Otology. He is also a Board Member of the International Federation of Oto-Rhino-Laryngological Societies (IFOS).

He presently serves as Chairman of the Otolaryngology Faculty at the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons, where he is actively involved in postgraduate curriculum development and evaluation. In addition, he is a Visiting Consultant at Anwer Khan Modern Medical College Hospital and Chair of the Hospital Management Committee of ENT Foundation Hospital, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

His primary clinical interests include Otology, Cochlear Implantation, and Prevention of Deafness. He was the Principal Investigator in Bangladesh for WHO-SEARO infrastructure survey for prevention and control of deafness in 2002. He has worked on ear and hearing care studies for the Non-communicable Disease Control under Directorate General of Health Services of Bangladesh. He has over 60 publications. He formerly served as the Chairman of the Editorial Board of Bangladesh Journal of Otolaryngology. He was awarded the lifetime achievement award from the Society of Otolaryngologists and Head-Neck Surgeons of Bangladesh in 2024.
